Dumbbell-Kettlebell Exercise for Core Stability

I thought I’d share a recent dumbbell/ kettlebell superset I did for increasing muscle tone and improving core stability.

Dumbbell chest presses are a great exercise for building strength and tone in the chest area and allow for a greater range of motion, which in turn will allow for more complete development of the chest area.

Also using dumbbells as apposed to barbells are a great way to ensure that you are developing both sides of your body equally as most people tend to be one side dominant.  If that is the case the stronger side will do most of the work in a barbell exercise,  by using dumbbells you remove this straight away.

By adding an unstable surface, in this case a stability ball, you have to slow the speed of the exercise down to avoid generating momentum, granted this will reduce the amount of weight you will lift but the added time under tension will more than compensate for this as. You also get a great core workout as you have to brace your abs to prevent yourself from rolling off the ball!

I used kettlebells for the alternate row as I have found them easier to hold. You can always use dumbbells if you don’t have kettlebells available.
