8 Tips To A Healthier Lifestyle

Hope you had a great weekend and are looking forward to the week ahead.

In my last few emails I’ve spoken about the importance of getting started on your journey to a healthier you, and not to keep putting it off for the “perfect” time to start.

Trouble is, there never will be a perfect time to start as things will always crop up.

So get started now and then adjust your plan as you go.

All very easy for me to say, but what if you don’t know where to start?

Don’t worry, I’ve got it sorted for you with these 8 tips to a healthier you:

1. Commit To A Healthy Lifestyle.

For permanent results you need to be able to stick to your eating plan long term. Don’t look at it as a diet with an end point. This often results in people massively “going off the rails” at the end and then going back to their old lifestyle and eating habits.

Remember, it was your old lifestyle and eating habits that made you want to do something about it.

Going back to the same lifestyle will result in you going back to square one!

2. Get Organised.

Make a plan and stick to it. This means organising what your going to eat in advance. The other thing to think about is getting more organisation in your day to day life. A less hectic lifestyle means that you are able to think and be calm around ever aspect of your life. Having a plan means you’re less likely to lurch from one crisis to the next, or going from one bad meal choice to the next

3. Eat Smaller Portions

Portion control is important for reducing your waistline, far more so than counting calories. Counting calories is just a way of justifying poor food choices. You’ll hear people justifying eating chocolate or cake because it’s in their calorie limit. Remember that you body is a result of the quality of the calories you consume, not the quantity.

4. Never Feel Deprived.

Kinda sounds like I’m contradicting myself, but there is a time and a place for eating cake. You don’t need to be a hero and never eat cake or ice cream again. Just don’t do it every day. Keep the portion under control and know when to say enough is enough.

5. Eat Slowly.

It takes roughly 20 minutes for your brain to register that your stomach is full. So, instead of wolfing your food down in minutes, take it slowly. Chew every mouthful completely. Put our knife and fork down between each mouthful and savour the food you are eating. Not only will you eat less, you’ll enjoy it more and a massive bonus is that your body will digest and absorb the meal better. It’ll also cut down on the chances of you feeling bloated or gassy.

6. Enjoy Your Food.

Food is one of life’s many pleasures. Enjoy the food you eat and don’t make it feel like a punishment or a ‘sin’ when you eat something that’s not strictly good for you.

7. Move More.

You might have noticed that all the tips up to now were about food. That’s because a healthy diet is probably the most important part of any weight loss plan. Simply put, you cannot out exercise a bad diet. In fact exercising with a poor diet can result in you feeling exhausted, not fully recovering from exercise and can lead to injury. So, get your diet squared away and then add in exercise. Any exercise will do, as long as you are consistent. If you want the fastest possible weight loss results then interval training like I teach in my 21 day programme gets the best results.

8. Get Enough Sleep.

They say that abs are made in the kitchen. This is true. They also say that exercise is the catalyst for your body to change. This is also true. BUT, if you don’t get enough rest and recovery you’ll eventually burn out. It’s when you are sleeping that your body is making the changes that you’ve asked for in the kitchen and the gym. So aim to get 8 hours of sleep per night.

Put those 8 tips into action on a daily basis and in just 3 weeks time you’ll be looking at a different reflection in the mirror.
